Narnia-The Magician’s Nephew gets first look as Netflix confirms huge cast and 2027 release
Netflix reveals a new look at Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, its huge cast and when Greta Gerwig’s film arrives in cinemas and on Netflix.
Netflix’s new Chronicles of Narnia era is getting closer, with a new behind-the-scenes look at The Magician’s Nephew revealing more of Greta Gerwig’s hugely anticipated fantasy film.
The movie marks the beginning of Netflix’s ambitious plans for Narnia, with Gerwig writing and directing following the enormous success of Barbie.
Netflix has also assembled a huge cast including Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep, Emma Mackey and Carey Mulligan, alongside newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell.

Although The Magician’s Nephew was the sixth Narnia novel published by C.S. Lewis, its story takes place before The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and explores the creation and origins of Narnia itself.
That means Netflix is effectively beginning its new screen version of the franchise at the start of Narnia’s fictional history rather than immediately returning to the Pevensie children’s story.
Ciarán Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough and Susan Wokoma are also confirmed for the cast. Gerwig has additionally reunited with Barbie collaborators Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who will compose the score.
Narnia is heading to cinemas first
Netflix is giving The Magician’s Nephew a major theatrical release before it becomes available to stream.
IMAX previews begin on 10 February 2027, followed by the wider cinema release two days later. Viewers wanting to watch at home will then have to wait until April.
The strategy makes Narnia one of Netflix’s most unusual major releases, giving the fantasy blockbuster a substantial cinema window before its streaming debut.
