Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery and Baby Reindeer favourite Jessica Gunning are heading into the wilderness for a new Netflix drama where a luxury holiday turns into a desperate fight for survival.

Netflix has officially given Feral the green light, bringing together Dockery and Gunning with Andor star Genevieve O'Reilly, Prime Target's Quintessa Swindell and Triangle of Sadness actor Dolly de Leon.

Paradise turns deadly

Based on Dame Shirley Conran's bestselling novel Savages, the seven-part series follows four very different women who accompany their mining executive husbands on a corporate trip to a beautiful but dangerous tropical island.

Their luxurious escape quickly falls apart when the men's shady business dealings put everybody in danger. Stranded in the jungle, the women are forced to put their differences aside and work out whether they can actually trust one another long enough to survive.

Gunning plays Annie, a devoted wife who has sacrificed her own ambitions while raising four sons with a domineering husband. Dockery stars as Julia, who emerges as the group's sensible leader, while O'Reilly plays wealthy Silvana and Swindell takes on the role of Suzy. De Leon completes the leading group as Elena.

The combination gives Netflix an unusually strong female ensemble, while the story promises something considerably wilder than the stately homes, political corridors and dark comedy many of its stars are best known for.

Filming is due to take place in Australia before the end of the year. Netflix has not yet announced an exact release date, although the series is expected to arrive in 2027.
