Jessica Chastain turns country star detective in dark Netflix mystery
Jessica Chastain plays a reclusive country superstar searching Nashville for her missing niece in Netflix’s dark new mystery Heartland.
Jessica Chastain is swapping Hollywood glamour for the darker side of Nashville in a new Netflix mystery that sees a former country superstar searching for her missing niece.
The first full trailer for Heartland reveals Chastain as Misty Jones, a once-famous singer who disappeared from Nashville and public life 20 years ago. She finally returns when her niece Charlie, herself a rising country performer, suddenly vanishes.
Nashville has something to hide
Misty refuses to sit back and wait for somebody else to find Charlie, instead launching her own investigation into the people surrounding her niece.
That search takes her beyond Nashville's polished stages and celebrity image into a much murkier world, while forcing Misty to confront the reasons she walked away from the music industry herself.
Chastain described her character as reckless, vulnerable and unpredictable, admitting she was drawn to a woman who is not particularly interested in being liked. The Oscar winner also performs her own music in the film after previously playing country legend Tammy Wynette in George & Tammy.
The new trailer arrives alongside an original song too. Chastain joins country star Jennifer Nettles, who plays singer Winnie Jo Lean, to perform the film's title track Heartland.
Real-life singer-songwriter Carter Faith makes her acting debut as missing musician Charlie, while Garrett Hedlund, Ross Lynch, John Hawkes and Paul Sparks complete the main cast.
Written and directed by Country Strong filmmaker Shana Feste, the film mixes country music with a noir-style missing-person mystery where Misty increasingly discovers that the people around Charlie may not be telling her everything.
