Icebreaker Story So Far: Ana and Noémie’s Romance Explained

Ana Malik and Noémie Morin’s relationship has become the heart of Icebreaker Series WLW, with creator Gen taking the two women from an awkward first meeting to a connection that neither can comfortably dismiss.

Set aboard the Arctic research vessel Polaris, the series gives Captain Ana and videographer Noémie nowhere to disappear when their personalities clash. Across the first 29 episodes, frustration gradually gives way to curiosity, affection, jealousy and a growing awareness that their relationship has moved well beyond the professional.

Ana and Noémie begin as complete opposites

The story follows Captain Ana Malik and videographer Noémie Morin, two very different women brought together in close quarters as their relationship slowly begins to develops.

Noémie joins the Polaris expedition to document the mission, putting her directly into the carefully controlled world of Captain Ana Malik. Ana trusts discipline, rules and protocol, while Noémie brings a far more open personality to the ship.

Gen told SoaplandTV that under ordinary circumstances the two women might have crossed paths and simply continued with their lives. A lengthy Arctic expedition means they have to spend time together, giving them the opportunity to look beyond their initial impressions.

Episodes 1 to 10 establish those differences as storms, emergencies and long periods aboard the ship begin reducing the distance between them. Behind the arguments and sharp exchanges, something more personal starts developing.

Noémie begins seeing another side of Ana

Episodes 11 to 14 bring an important shift when Noémie starts seeing a version of Ana that most people aboard the Polaris rarely encounter.

An unexpected act of kindness challenges Noémie’s assumptions about the captain. When Noémie is later injured on deck, Ana reacts quickly and chooses to take care of her injury herself even though medical help is available.

The pair also share their longest and most personal conversation at that point in the story. Ana relaxes enough to laugh and briefly lower her guard, only to realise what she is doing and quickly put those familiar walls back in place.

The difference is that Noémie has now seen what is behind them.

Jealousy and small gestures say more than words

By Episodes 15 to 18, keeping their distance becomes increasingly difficult. Neither woman is ready to openly acknowledge what is developing, but their behaviour begins doing much of the talking for them.

Jealousy, lingering glances and acts of care become more noticeable. Ana remembers details Noémie did not expect her to keep, while Noémie finds her own ways of showing that she has been paying attention too.

A remembered conversation, a favourite meal and frost flowers all become part of a relationship where relatively small gestures carry considerable meaning. At the same time, both women remain wary of misreading the other, allowing Ana’s instinct to retreat behind duty and control to repeatedly interrupt their progress.

The helipad incident exposes Ana’s fear

Episodes 19 to 23 push their feelings much closer to the surface. Ana and Noémie have started learning each other’s routines, from where they sit to the conversations and encounters that have quietly become part of everyday life aboard the Polaris.

During a helicopter operation, Noémie accidentally crosses a yellow safety line. Ana immediately pulls her back, reacting with fear and anger that she can no longer completely disguise as professional concern.

The confrontation forces Ana to reveal more than she intended. Afterwards, both women retreat behind titles, rules and distance, cutting out many of the familiar interactions that had developed between them.

Ana soon discovers that getting the distance she thought she wanted does not make things easier. Noémie’s absence becomes increasingly noticeable, while seeing her laughing with somebody else brings Ana’s jealousy into sharper focus.

Sophie begins noticing what Ana cannot hide

The aftermath of the helipad incident continues into the next stage of the story. Ana makes an uncharacteristic mistake, and Sophie quickly recognises that something is wrong.

Encouraged to face what she has been avoiding, Ana gives Noémie an apology she had not expected. Their unfinished feelings then follow them to the observation deck, where a quiet confrontation brings questions and emotions much closer to the surface.

By this point, avoiding the obvious has become increasingly difficult for both women.

Episodes 28 and 29 leave Ana struggling for control

Episodes 28 and 29 move Ana and Noémie into unfamiliar territory after they cross a boundary neither can simply ignore.

Noémie appears more willing to remain present and see where their connection leads. Ana responds in a very Ana way, attempting to regain control, hiding behind work and trying to treat her feelings as though they are another problem she can solve.

The episodes also begin bringing memories from Ana’s past to the surface, offering more insight into the experiences that shaped the emotional barriers she still carries. Sophie continues asking questions, while Noémie becomes increasingly unwilling to simply let Ana retreat.

Their story remains unfinished, with Gen already confirming to SoaplandTV that she has a second season in mind.
