ICEBREAKER Episodes 40 and 41 Show Ana and Noémie Struggling to Return to Normal

Ana and Noémie finally return to Polaris in ICEBREAKER Episodes 40 and 41 after spending three unexpected days ashore together. The ship is waiting, the work has continued and familiar routines are ready to resume, but both women quickly discover that returning to Polaris does not mean everything between them simply goes back to the way it was.

Before they even leave the shore, Ana makes it clear that she would happily get stranded with Noémie again. Noémie answers that she would do it all over again too, giving their final moments ashore a warmth that follows them back onto the ship.

Ana returns straight to work

Back aboard Polaris, Ana immediately asks for a full debrief on the weather, fuel, supplies and revised arrival time. Sophie explains that nothing critical was affected while Ana was away, although the ship is now running three days behind schedule.

If the weather remains favourable, they may be able to recover around a day or possibly a day and a half. Their next stop is still expecting them, with equipment to unload, final supplies to collect and an Arctic Research passenger waiting to be picked up.

Ana is clearly relieved when Sophie confirms there is no reason to stay overnight at the next stop. She insists that she intends to remain on board, although Sophie quickly reminds her that Noémie has another interview there with Evelyn Ross.

Ana responds professionally, pointing out that Noémie is working and should go ashore if she needs to. Sophie notices the shift in tone and continues teasing Ana about how she spent those three unexpected days away.

Sophie gets more answers than Ana planned to give

The conversation soon moves from ship operations to Ana’s new clothes and what she and Noémie actually did ashore. Ana keeps the details simple, mentioning walks, card games and seeing musk oxen, but Sophie continues asking questions.

That eventually leads to the hotel arrangements. Ana admits that she and Noémie shared one room because the hotel was fully booked, and Sophie quickly works out that there was only one bed as well.

Ana insists that they had no choice, but Sophie is more interested in something else. She notices that Ana seems happy, and although Ana refuses to offer a full explanation, she does admit that she had a good time.

The teasing never becomes hostile, but it makes one thing obvious. Ana is no longer returning from the trip quite as guarded as she was before.

Noémie chooses to stay with Ana

Later that evening, Noémie arrives at Ana’s cabin and initially says she only came to wish her goodnight. The excuse lasts only briefly before Noémie admits that she does not really want to sleep alone.

She has already brought an overnight bag, showing that she had considered staying before she even knocked on the door. The situation becomes more awkward when both women look at Ana’s small bed and realise that this is different from what happened in the hotel.

Ashore, sharing space happened because circumstances forced them together. Back on Polaris, staying in the same cabin is a choice.

Noémie first says that she had become used to being there, then corrects herself and makes the meaning more personal. She had become used to Ana being there.

Ana understands exactly what she means and admits that she may be getting used to Noémie too. It is a quiet moment, but it says more than either woman needs to explain.
