Remi makes a devastating decision about Sonny’s wedding in Home and Away after discovering his friend is still involved in dealing steroids for Beau. Sonny hopes the pair can put their recent conflict behind them, but Remi refuses to stand beside him while such a dangerous secret remains unresolved.
Dana encourages Sonny to repair his friendship with Remi because she wants him to ask Remi to be his best man. Sonny eventually heads to Salt and appeals to Remi directly, asking whether they can put their problems aside so he can be there for one of the biggest moments of his life.
Remi is prepared to consider it, but only if Sonny answers one question honestly. He asks whether Sonny is still dealing for Beau, forcing Sonny to confront the secret he has repeatedly tried to keep hidden.
Sonny freezes rather than giving Remi a straight answer, and his reaction tells Remi everything he needs to know. Remi refuses to stand beside him at the wedding until he sorts himself out, making clear that friendship does not mean ignoring what Sonny is doing.
The rejection hits Sonny hard and he storms out of Salt. Eden witnesses the confrontation and later pours Remi a whiskey, prompting him to explain that Sonny is dealing steroids and ask her to keep the information confidential.
For Remi, refusing to be best man is about far more than a disagreement between friends. He can see Sonny becoming increasingly entangled with Beau and is unwilling to celebrate his future with Dana while knowing that such a serious secret sits underneath their engagement.
The decision also shows that Remi has not given up on Sonny completely. By demanding that he get himself out of the situation before they repair their friendship, Remi is drawing a line while still leaving Sonny a way back.
Unfortunately, speaking up soon places Remi himself in danger. Beau learns that Remi has been talking and confronts him, turning a fractured friendship into a much more serious threat.
