Levi’s desperation to prove he can still work pushes him into a worrying situation in Home and Away when he attempts to stitch Zane’s wound despite his injured hand. What begins as an effort to help quickly exposes just how far Levi remains from the recovery he desperately wants.
Zane arrives at hospital after cutting himself while trying to escape from Mali. He is reluctant to stay and wants nothing to do with police, leaving Levi determined to keep him there long enough to receive treatment.
Levi decides to take matters into his own hands and removes his brace so he can attempt the stitches himself. The choice immediately puts his recovering hand under pressure at a time when he has already been warned that his future fine motor skills could determine whether he can continue working as a doctor.
It soon becomes clear that Levi is struggling. Both Mali and Zane can see that he is not up to the procedure, turning what should have been a straightforward medical task into another painful reminder of everything Levi fears losing.
For Levi, the moment is about much more than treating Zane. He has already admitted that medicine is central to his identity, and every task he cannot perform risks feeling like evidence that the future he wants is slipping away.
His frustration is also driving increasingly risky behaviour. Rather than allowing himself time to heal, Levi appears determined to test the limits of his hand before it is ready.
Jo later interrupts another attempt by Levi to fast-track his operation. She reminds him that being forceful will not change the medical timetable and points out the uncomfortable truth he is still struggling to accept: this time, Levi is the patient.
That role reversal may be his hardest challenge yet. Levi knows exactly how important recovery and patience are when advising others, but applying the same logic to himself is proving far more difficult when his entire career feels like it is waiting on the outcome.
