Home and Away Dana devastated as Sonny’s drug betrayal destroys trust
Home and Away’s Dana is devastated after discovering Sonny’s drug dealing and repeated lies, leaving their engagement and future together in serious doubt.
Dana’s future with Sonny is thrown into turmoil in Home and Away as the full extent of his involvement in the steroid operation finally comes to light. What devastates her most is not only that Sonny has been dealing drugs, but that he has repeatedly looked her in the eye and lied while they were planning a life together.
Dana initially struggles to process the revelation that her fiancé is a drug dealer. Sonny desperately follows her and asks for the chance to explain how he became involved, hoping that giving her the full story will help her understand why he made the choices he did.
Sonny explains that he originally started using steroids to help with his recovery and insists that he never realised how dangerous Beau could become. Remi being violently attacked has made the consequences impossible to ignore, particularly now that Sonny understands just how far Beau is prepared to go.
For Dana, the mention of Beau makes the situation even worse. Beau is not some distant figure connected only to the gym, because he is dating Harper and has been spending time around Archie, immediately making Dana question what kind of danger has been sitting close to her own family.
Sonny tries to reassure Dana that his love for her has always been genuine. Dana refuses to accept that love can be separated from the way he has treated her, telling him that repeatedly looking her in the eyes and lying every day is not love.
The response goes straight to the heart of their relationship crisis. Sonny may want Dana to focus on why he became involved with steroids, but Dana is focused on the fact that he made the decision to deceive her again and again after they had already committed to a future together.
Only recently, Dana was proudly showing off her engagement ring, discussing wedding ideas and asking Harper to become her maid of honour. Those plans now feel very different as she is forced to question whether she can trust the man she was preparing to marry.
Sonny eventually takes responsibility in another way and goes to the police station to tell Cash the full story. He later returns to Dana and reveals that he has been charged with possession and supply, although Cash has granted him bail using his discretion.
Sonny hopes that finally being honest with police could mark the beginning of repairing things between them. Dana remains uncertain because confessing now cannot erase the fact that she only learned the truth after his secrets had already begun collapsing around him.
Her anger is also complicated by what Sonny’s confession reveals about Harper’s situation. Dana now knows Beau has been involved in drug dealing while maintaining a relationship with her sister, adding another layer of fear to a revelation that was already deeply personal.
Dana’s dilemma is therefore much bigger than whether she can forgive one terrible decision. She has to decide whether trust can be rebuilt after discovering that the person she intended to marry was capable of hiding something so serious for so long.
Sonny clearly wants to believe their relationship can survive, but Dana is not prepared to offer that reassurance. After everything she has learned, she admits she does not know whether she will ever be able to trust him again.
Their engagement may still exist, but the certainty surrounding it has disappeared. Sonny has finally told the truth, yet Dana is left facing the far harder question of whether it came too late to save the future they were planning together.
