Home and Away Alf’s doubts over Zane grow after he moves in
Home and Away’s Alf keeps a close eye on Zane after allowing him into his home, while Marilyn insists the newcomer deserves the benefit of the doubt.
Alf may have agreed to give Zane a fair chance in Home and Away, but allowing him into the house has not magically erased every concern. As Zane begins building a more stable life, Alf quietly makes clear that he still intends to watch closely before deciding whether complete trust is deserved.
Alf tells Leah that he remains cautious even after signing off on Zane’s living arrangements. If anything, Zane moving into the house gives Alf an even closer view of how he behaves day to day.
Leah now takes a softer position and suggests Marilyn may have been right from the beginning. Instead of assuming the worst, she believes Zane deserves the benefit of the doubt and an opportunity to prove that his past does not define him.
Zane is already beginning to do exactly that at the Diner. Marilyn teaches him the coffee machine, Leah is impressed by how quickly he picks things up and the pair begin sorting out the practical paperwork needed for his new job.
The problem becomes more obvious at home. While Marilyn patiently helps Zane set up basics including an email address and bank account, Alf grows impatient and excuses himself for bed almost immediately after dinner.
Zane notices the shift in atmosphere and admits to Marilyn that he believes Alf is uncomfortable having him in the house. Marilyn tries to reassure him, but Zane is not convinced that Alf is as relaxed about the arrangement as she wants to believe.
That tension could actually become important for both men. Alf has chosen not to reject Zane outright, but he is also refusing to pretend trust exists before it has been earned.
For Zane, that means the second chance he wanted has finally arrived in its most demanding form. He now has to live alongside the person who has doubted him most and demonstrate through everyday choices that Alf’s fears belong to his past rather than his future.
