Home and Away Alf changes his mind on Zane but still has one warning
Home and Away’s Alf finally agrees to give Zane a fair chance, but his lingering doubts show the newcomer still has a long way to go.
Alf finally begins changing his position on Zane in Home and Away, but the shift stops well short of complete trust. After weeks of treating Zane with suspicion, Alf accepts that he deserves a fair chance while making clear that Marilyn’s safety will still come first.
Zane has already moved into the house, but he remains unconvinced that Alf is truly comfortable with the arrangement. Given the way Alf reacted to his criminal past, Zane has good reason to question whether Marilyn has been overly optimistic about how welcome he really is.
Alf eventually settles the immediate uncertainty by confirming that Zane can stay. He has dealt with the necessary paperwork and accepts that Zane deserves an opportunity to prove himself rather than continue being judged solely on what he did years ago.
That represents a major shift from the man who previously asked Mali to keep watch over Zane. Alf is starting to recognise that caution and permanent suspicion are not the same thing.
John later raises his own concerns about Marilyn trusting Zane too easily, expecting Alf to share the warning. Alf does not dismiss those concerns completely and admits he is still keeping an eye on the situation.
His position is now far more balanced. Alf is prepared to give Zane room to show he has changed, but he is not going to stop looking out for Marilyn simply because everyone wants the tension to disappear.
That may actually give Zane a more meaningful path towards acceptance. Alf is not pretending trust already exists, meaning Zane has the chance to earn it through what he does next.
For Zane, living under the same roof could become the ultimate test. Alf will see the person he is now every day, giving Zane exactly the opportunity he has been asking for since arriving in Summer Bay.
Home and Away airs weekdays on Channel 5 in the UK and streams on 5. SoapLandTV’s coverage follows the UK broadcast, while Australia is further ahead, meaning some storylines and developments may already have aired for Australian viewers.
