Hollyoaks Ste relapse ends in shock night with James
Hollyoaks Ste spirals after turning back to alcohol, accuses James of killing Rex and becomes caught in an unexpected encounter with his former husband.
Ste’s grief takes another devastating turn in Hollyoaks as his relapse leads to a furious confrontation with James before the pair unexpectedly end up spending the night together.
Upcoming scenes see Ste struggling to cope with everything happening around him following Rex’s death. His emotions become increasingly difficult to control, and things begin to unravel when he spots Jonah and James getting friendly.
Ste attempts to confront Jonah, but Jonah does not realise that alcohol is something Ste should be avoiding. When he suggests they have a glass of wine to calm things down, Ste instead grabs a bottle and starts drinking.
From there, his behaviour quickly spirals. Ste ends up at Casa McQueen and becomes convinced that he has worked out who was responsible for Rex’s death, turning his suspicions towards James and accusing him of killing Rex.
The confrontation becomes deeply emotional, with Ste already carrying the weight of his grief as well as everything he has been trying to uncover. James initially responds harshly, leaving Ste upset enough to walk away from the situation.
However, James then follows him and his attitude changes considerably. Rather than leaving Ste alone while he is in such a vulnerable state, James becomes protective and stays close to him.
The situation eventually results in Ste spending the night with James, creating another complicated development between the former couple at a time when Ste is already struggling to process Rex’s death.
Kieron Richardson has explained that Ste’s drinking is closely connected to his inability to control his emotions, with alcohol becoming a way of trying to block out what he is feeling. His latest relapse therefore appears to be about far more than the confrontation itself, with grief continuing to influence his actions.
With Ste convinced there is still more to discover about Rex’s death and his relationship with James becoming complicated once again, his search for answers could leave him facing even more emotional fallout.
