High School Musical first look as McFly’s Judd takes on Coach Bolton
See the first look at McFly star Harry Judd as Coach Bolton before Disney’s High School Musical arrives in London this October.
McFly star Harry is swapping the drum kit for the basketball court as High School Musical heads to London next month. He plays Coach Bolton, Troy’s father and basketball coach, in the production arriving at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre on October 12.
The drummer and former Strictly Come Dancing champion plays Troy’s father and basketball coach. He took over from Jason Donovan for the final two performances at Lowry in Salford on September 19 and will continue in the role throughout the London season.
The production is billed as the first UK non-replica staging of High School Musical, meaning it gives the musical a new staging rather than reproducing an earlier production’s presentation. It also celebrates 20 years since the original Disney film introduced audiences to East High.
Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan and their classmates return in a story about friendships, first love and the pressure to meet other people’s expectations. The familiar songs include Breaking Free, We’re All in This Together and Get’cha Head in the Game.
Original movie cast member KayCee is also part of the stage production, playing drama teacher Ms Darbus. Fans of the films will remember her as Martha Cox, giving this version another connection to the Disney trilogy.
