Harry Potter and the Cursed Child replaces two-part West End show

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is replacing its two-part London production with a shorter version that audiences can watch in one performance. The new show begins at the Palace Theatre on October 9, 2026, following the original production’s final performances on September 20.

Until now, seeing the complete story in London meant attending both Part One and Part Two. The replacement brings the story into a single performance lasting an announced two hours and 55 minutes, including an interval, so audiences will only need one visit to the theatre.

What is changing in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child?

The Palace Theatre will remain the production’s London home, with the original creative and technical teams reworking the staging for the shorter format. The producers say the change will make the play easier for more people to attend while retaining its stage illusions and theatrical effects.

London is following productions elsewhere, including Broadway, which have already switched to a single-show format. The change comes after the play celebrated ten years in the West End this summer, having premiered in 2016.

The story remains set 19 years after Harry, Ron and Hermione saved the wizarding world, introducing a new generation of Hogwarts students. Their adventure draws the familiar characters into a dangerous journey through time.

The October opening also brings cast changes, with new performers taking on roles including Albus Potter, Scorpius Malfoy, Ginny Potter and Draco Malfoy. The actors playing Harry, Ron and Hermione in the final two-part company will continue in their roles.

When does the new version begin?

The first performance of the one-part production is on October 9, 2026. Tickets are already on sale, with performances currently booking until June 27, 2027.
