Gosling’s $680 Million Sci-Fi Hit Project Hail Mary Is Streaming Now
Ryan Gosling’s $680 million sci-fi hit Project Hail Mary is streaming now on Prime Video after becoming one of the biggest films of 2026.
One of 2026’s biggest cinema hits is now available to stream at home, with Project Hail Mary bringing Ryan Gosling’s huge sci-fi adventure to Prime Video.
The Amazon MGM Studios film has already earned more than $680 million worldwide following its cinema release, making it the third highest-grossing film of the year when Amazon published its latest figures. It has now moved onto Prime Video worldwide, where the platform currently lists it as having spent five weeks in the Top 10.
Ryan plays Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft millions of miles from Earth with no memory of who he is, why he is there or what he is supposed to be doing.
As fragments of his memory begin returning, Ryland discovers the scale of the mission facing him. A mysterious substance is causing the sun to die, putting humanity at risk of extinction, and he may be the only person capable of finding a solution.
That would already be enough for a huge sci-fi survival story, but Project Hail Mary has another major element that is best experienced without knowing too much beforehand.
What begins as the story of one man completely isolated in space develops into something much bigger, combining high-stakes science fiction with humour, emotion and an unexpected friendship at the centre of the film.
Sandra Hüller also stars, while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller direct from a screenplay by Drew Goddard. The film is based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, with Weir also serving as one of the producers.
The combination clearly connected with audiences. Project Hail Mary became one of Amazon MGM Studios’ biggest theatrical successes before making the jump to streaming, while its current 8.2 IMDb rating gives an indication of how strongly viewers have responded to it.
At two hours and 36 minutes, this is not a quick background watch. It is a full-scale space adventure built for viewers who want something closer to a blockbuster cinema experience at home.
There is also an obvious appeal for anyone who enjoyed films such as The Martian, particularly given that both stories originated with Andy Weir. Project Hail Mary takes its own route, however, pushing its survival story much further away from Earth and making the mystery surrounding Ryland’s mission a major part of the experience.
For anyone who missed it at the cinema, this is now one of the biggest films available through a standard Prime Video subscription and easily one of the service’s strongest current movie picks.
