Golden Globe winner Rachel Griffiths joins Wentworth: Halfway Home

Rachel Griffiths is officially joining Wentworth: Halfway Home, bringing one of Australia’s most celebrated acting careers into the next chapter of the Wentworth world.

The Golden Globe winner will play Moira, a glamorous new resident at Sal’s Halfway House, joining a cast that combines familiar Wentworth favourites with an expanding group of new characters.

Rachel Griffiths brings an exceptional career to Wentworth

Griffiths has built an international career spanning major Australian films, Hollywood productions and acclaimed television dramas.

Her breakthrough came as Rhonda in Muriel’s Wedding, starring alongside Toni Collette. Griffiths won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Supporting Actress for the performance, establishing her as one of Australia’s most exciting screen talents.

She later earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Hilary and Jackie. Her film credits have since included Blow, Saving Mr. Banks and Hacksaw Ridge.

Television brought Griffiths another level of international recognition. She played Brenda Chenowith in HBO’s Six Feet Under before starring as Sarah Walker in Brothers & Sisters.

Golden Globe winner and four time Emmy nominee

Griffiths won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a television series for Six Feet Under in 2002.

Across her career she has received four Golden Globe nominations, while the Television Academy has nominated her for four Primetime Emmy Awards. Two came for Six Feet Under and another two followed for Brothers & Sisters.

That awards record makes her arrival a significant addition to the new Wentworth ensemble.

Griffiths takes on the role of Moira

Moira arrives at Sal’s Halfway House after being convicted of fraud and serving three years of a five year sentence.

She previously worked as a beauty therapist before her second marriage took her into a very different world of wealth, penthouses and champagne. Following her husband’s death, the fortune supporting that lifestyle was exposed as an elaborate house of cards.

Moira is also described as a blackmailer, loan shark and seductress, giving Griffiths a potentially fascinating character to explore.

Griffiths herself has called Moira a “delicious character” who is going to shake things up at the house.

A strong new ensemble for Halfway Home

Griffiths joins returning stars Katrina Milosevic as Boomer Jenkins, Nicole da Silva as Franky Doyle and Kate Box as Lou Kelly.

Sophie Lowe has also joined as Sam, creating a reunion with Griffiths after the pair previously appeared together in Beautiful Kate. Alex King and Chenile Chandler are also among the new additions to the ensemble.

Production is underway in Melbourne, with Wentworth: Halfway Home set to premiere on BINGE in Australia in late 2026. UK broadcast and streaming details have not yet been announced.
