Glee Reboot Confirmed as Fans Await Return of LGBTQ+ Characters
Disney confirms a new Glee series for Disney+ and Hulu, raising questions about whether Kurt, Blaine, Brittany and other favourites will return.
Glee is officially returning after more than a decade, with Disney confirming a new series of the musical comedy-drama for Disney+ and Hulu.
The announcement on 21 October 2026 comes 11 years after the original series ended, bringing renewed attention to the programme’s LGBTQ+ characters and their influence on television representation.
Ryan Murphy, who created the original alongside Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, previously revealed that a script had been written for the revival. The new series will be produced by 20th Television, which also made the original programme.
Will Kurt, Blaine and Brittany return?
One of the biggest questions surrounding the revival is whether viewers will see familiar LGBTQ+ characters again.
Chris Colfer played Kurt Hummel, whose coming-out journey and relationship with Blaine Anderson, played by Darren Criss, became central to the series.

The couple, affectionately known as Klaine, married during the original run and became one of television’s most recognisable gay relationships.
Brittany Pierce and Santana Lopez also played an important part in lesbian and bisexual representation, with Heather Morris and the late Naya Rivera portraying their relationship.
Their wedding became another significant moment in the programme’s LGBTQ+ storylines, giving viewers two same-sex couples celebrating their relationships.
Whether the new series will revisit these characters or introduce a new generation of LGBTQ+ students has not yet been revealed.
Who is returning for the Glee reboot?
Murphy previously confirmed that he had been speaking with former cast members about a possible return, although Disney has not officially announced the returning performers.
The original Glee aired for six seasons between 2009 and 2015, combining musical performances with stories about identity, friendship, sexuality and acceptance.
It also received two GLAAD Media Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series, recognising its LGBTQ+ representation.
A premiere date has not yet been announced. The series is confirmed for Disney+ and Hulu, with UK release details and casting announcements still to follow.
