Friday the 13th returns for Halloween as Crystal Lake trailer reveals Jason Voorhees prequel

One of horror’s most famous names is returning just in time for Halloween, with the official trailer for Crystal Lake offering a disturbing new look at the world of Friday the 13th.

The eight-part series comes from A24 and takes viewers back before the original films, focusing on Jason Voorhees’ mother Pam and the events surrounding her son’s death.

Linda Cardellini, known for Dead to Me, takes the central role as Pam. Almost a year after her young son Jason drowned in Crystal Lake, Pam remains consumed by grief. When two strangers arrive and begin investigating her past, their questions trigger a disturbing chain of events across the town.

Crystal Lake explores the story before Friday the 13th

Rather than simply bringing Jason back for another killing spree, the series is digging deeper into the Voorhees family and the mythology behind one of horror’s longest-running franchises.

Brad Caleb Kane, who worked on It: Welcome to Derry, created the series and serves as writer and showrunner. William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom also star.

A24, the American studio behind films including Hereditary, Midsommar and Everything Everywhere All at Once, produces the series.

Where to watch Crystal Lake in the UK

UK horror fans won’t have to wait for an overseas release.

Crystal Lake will be available exclusively on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland this October, making it a well-timed addition to this year’s Halloween viewing. An exact October premiere date has not yet been announced. USA viewers will find it on Peacock.
