Empress of Flames: Netflix reveals first look at Thai revenge drama ahead of December release

Netflix has shared a first look at Empress of Flames, its lavish new Thai historical drama, giving viewers their clearest sense yet of the palace intrigue to come before the series arrives on the streamer on Thursday 3 December 2026.

Known in Thailand as Plerng Phra Nang, the series is a fresh take on one of the country's best-loved lakorn titles. Netflix first announced it as part of its 2026 Thai slate, describing a reimagining made on an unprecedented scale, with sweeping locations, detailed sets and striking period costumes.

It is produced by Kantana, the production house behind the original, with a new generation of creators at the helm.

At the centre of the story is Ananthip, a fallen princess of royal blood who is determined to reclaim a throne taken from her family line.

Netflix's own description makes it clear that she is prepared to sacrifice her virtue for revenge, and the drama follows her into a succession battle shaped by betrayal, cunning and shifting loyalties, even when that means turning on the people she trusts most.

Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul, known to many viewers as Baifern, leads the cast as Ananthip, having also starred in the Netflix action film My Dearest Assassin. She is joined by Narilya Gulmongkolpech as Sekkharathewi and Khemanit Jamikorn as Tawanthip, while Mark Prin Suparat plays Mueangkhum and Boy Pakorn Chatborirak takes the role of Buraphakham. Amanda Obdam also joins the ensemble.

The series is directed by Karn Sivaroj Kongsakul, and the writing team includes Titipong Chaisati and Nuttapot Potchumnean. Netflix has said this version goes deeper into its characters than earlier adaptations, with a particular focus on the personal cost of chasing power.

Anyone who enjoys the scheming and family rivalries of a good soap will find plenty to like in a story built around a stolen throne and a woman willing to lose everything to win it back, and you can keep up with more of the latest streaming news on SoaplandTV.

With the first look out and the release date set, viewers have a little over six weeks to wait. Empress of Flames streams globally on Netflix from 3 December.
