Emmerdale fans are already trying to solve the next major mystery surrounding Thea Ramsden after the revelation that she is the daughter Kim gave up years ago.

The discovery has immediately raised another question. If Kim is Thea’s mother, who is her father?

Viewers have been digging through Kim’s complicated history and studying the flashback scenes for clues, with Steve Marchant and Graham Foster emerging as the two names being discussed most heavily online.

Several fans believe the flashback was set in 1999, and that timing could be crucial.

Viewers have pointed to millennium bug poster references, a poster advertising an event in September 1999, a nurse using what she called an new Nokia 3310 type phone, and the use of Stereophonics track Just Looking, which was released in February 1999.

If those clues are deliberate, they significantly narrow down the possibilities.

Steve Marchant

Steve is currently the strongest theory among viewers because the apparent 1999 setting lines up particularly well with Kim’s life around that period.

Kim married Steve during her original Emmerdale stint, and fans have argued that if Thea was born after Kim left the village, Steve fits the timeline more naturally than several of the other established characters being suggested.

One viewer wrote:

“Thea being Steve’s daughter could be interesting.”

Another fan pointed directly towards the flashback clues, arguing that Frank could not fit the apparent dates because he had already died, while Steve remained part of Kim’s life around the period viewers believe Thea was born.

The music has also attracted attention, with one fan noting:

“Just Looking by Stereophonics (they played this twice) was released in February 1999.”

None of that confirms Steve as Thea’s father, but it gives the theory a clear chronological advantage.

Graham Foster

Graham is the other major contender, particularly following his dramatic return and renewed involvement with the Tate family.

Some viewers have questioned exactly when his history with Kim began and whether Emmerdale could reveal that their connection stretches further back than previously understood. Fans have also picked up on Graham talking about the family he lost, wondering whether those references could eventually take on a different meaning.

One viewer suggested that Thea being Graham’s daughter could work because of their respective backgrounds, pointing to his military past and her career in the police.

The biggest obstacle is the timeline. Compared with Steve, considerably more explanation would currently be needed to place Graham in Kim’s life at exactly the right point.

Frank Tate

Frank remains part of the discussion because some viewers believe Thea looks like she could belong directly to the Tate bloodline.

“Surely Frank is the father. She has the Tate looks.”

However, others quickly challenged the theory because Frank died in 1997, while the clues surrounding the flashback appear to point towards 1999.

For Frank to be Thea’s father, Emmerdale would need to reveal that the pregnancy happened significantly earlier than the scene currently appears to suggest.

Dave Glover

Dave has also been mentioned because of his famous history with Kim, but the same problem applies.

His death predates the apparent 1999 setting, making him another difficult candidate unless viewers have misunderstood the flashback timeline or Emmerdale is preparing to reveal another major missing piece.

At the moment, there is considerably less evidence supporting Dave than Steve.

Could Thea’s dad be somebody else entirely?

There is still every possibility that Emmerdale could reveal another previously unknown chapter of Kim’s life.

The period surrounding her original departure and eventual imprisonment leaves room for events viewers were never shown, meaning the father does not necessarily have to be somebody already dominating the theories.

That could allow the show to introduce another relationship from Kim’s past and preserve Thea’s father as a separate reveal.

Which Thea Ramsden father theory fits best?

Right now, Steve Marchant is the strongest theory.

The apparent 1999 clues fit his place in Kim’s history better than Frank or Dave, while the theory requires fewer assumptions than Graham.

Graham remains the more dramatic alternative, especially because he is back in the village and already connected to the current Tate storyline. However, if the flashback really is set in 1999, Steve currently makes the most sense based on the evidence viewers have pieced together.

Until Emmerdale confirms the truth, Thea’s father remains another major unanswered part of Kim’s newly revealed past.
