Doctor Who is getting its youngest Doctor yet as the BBC opens the TARDIS doors to a completely new generation of viewers.

The first look at animated spin-off TARDIS Crew reveals the Doctor alongside Hannah, Beastie and their unusual robotic companion Toast-IE, a talking toaster who travels through time and space with them.

Even the Daleks are coming

The new Doctor is a younger incarnation created specifically for the CBeebies series rather than a replacement for the Doctor in the main BBC drama.

Across 52 eleven-minute episodes, the crew will visit different worlds, meet alien creatures and encounter some very familiar enemies. The BBC has already confirmed that the Daleks will appear.

The format is designed as a first step into the Doctor Who universe for preschool audiences, but the first images are also attracting attention from older fans.

One online viewer said the animation looked “way cuter and more polished than I expected”, while another gave a considerably simpler verdict: “Looks fun!”

That crossover interest could prove useful. Parents who grew up watching the Doctor can introduce younger children to the TARDIS without expecting them to follow the main programme's longer and sometimes considerably darker adventures.

The 11-minute runtime also puts the series firmly into CBeebies territory while retaining some of the monsters and mythology that have defined Doctor Who for more than 60 years.

TARDIS Crew arrives on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in late 2027 or early 2028.
