Disney announces animated Artemis Fowl series for its 25th anniversary
Artemis Fowl is returning in animated form, with author Eoin Colfer joining Disney’s new television adaptation as executive producer.
Disney is bringing Artemis Fowl back to the screen with a new animated series, announced as the bestselling fantasy book franchise celebrates 25 years since its debut.
The project was revealed during a New York Comic Con panel in October 2026, with author Eoin Colfer joining the creative team as an executive producer. The series has been greenlit for Disney Channel and Disney+, giving a new generation of viewers the opportunity to discover the young mastermind and the extraordinary world he uncovers.
First published in 2001, Artemis Fowl introduced readers to a highly intelligent 12-year-old who discovers an underground civilisation of technologically advanced fairies. Rather than approaching this hidden world with wonder, Artemis sees an opportunity to use its magic for his own purposes.
His plan to capture a fairy and steal its powers is driven by a desire to save his family, but he soon discovers that the people he is trying to outsmart have formidable technology, their own rules and plenty of ways to fight back. The books combine fantasy, adventure, technology and criminal intrigue, with Artemis’s intelligence and questionable methods setting him apart from more traditional young heroes.
Colfer will executive produce the adaptation alongside Ben Juwono and Colleen Evanson. Juwono’s previous work includes Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Big Hero 6: The Series, while Evanson has worked on productions including DuckTales and Monsters at Work.
The anniversary provides a fitting moment to revisit a series that has reached readers around the world. Disney says the books have sold more than 35 million copies and been translated into 48 languages, demonstrating the enduring popularity of Colfer’s fantasy universe.
The new animation follows the 2020 live-action film directed by Kenneth Branagh, which starred Ferdia Shaw as Artemis alongside Colin Farrell and Judi Dench. A television adaptation offers room to explore the characters and the magical technology of the books across a longer story, while introducing the franchise to audiences who may not have read the original novels.
Colfer’s involvement also gives fans a direct link between the books and their new screen interpretation. Disney has yet to reveal the voice cast or further story details, leaving plenty of scope for future announcements as the series develops.
Where to watch the animated series
The new Artemis Fowl series is planned for Disney Channel and Disney+. Its premiere date and voice cast are expected to be announced in future updates.
