Dirty Dancing brings Baby and Johnny back to the West End in January
Dirty Dancing returns to London’s Prince Edward Theatre from January to April 2027, bringing Baby and Johnny’s romance and familiar soundtrack to the stage.
Dirty Dancing is returning to London’s West End, with Baby and Johnny taking to the stage at the Prince Edward Theatre from 19 January to 24 April 2027. The limited season brings the romance and familiar soundtrack of the much-loved film back before a live audience.
Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story on Stage follows the relationship between Baby and dance instructor Johnny, whose summer together challenges the expectations of the people around them. Their growing attraction unfolds through the dancing that first draws them together, with music including Hungry Eyes, Hey! Baby, Do You Love Me? and (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.
The production is the live theatre adaptation of the film, with a script by its original screenwriter, Eleanor Bergstein. She developed the stage version to give audiences a closer connection to the story, adding scenes that expand the characters and incorporating music she had wanted to include in the screen version.
That gives the show space to explore more of Baby and Johnny’s world alongside the moments audiences already recognise. Their relationship remains at its centre, bringing together two independent people whose different backgrounds shape the obstacles they face.
The London return follows further delays to the opening of Capital Theatre at Westfield London, where the production had been due to play. The producers say the planning permission process has delayed the new venue and that revised dates for Dirty Dancing there will be announced.
The Prince Edward Theatre engagement is an interim West End season while those plans continue. The separate UK and Ireland tour is unaffected and remains scheduled to run through summer 2027.
At the Prince Edward, performances are scheduled for Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm, Fridays at 5pm and 8.30pm, and Saturdays at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. The production runs for approximately two hours and 15 minutes, including a 20-minute interval, and is recommended for audiences aged 14 and over.
An audio-described performance is scheduled for 9 March 2027 at 7.30pm, with a captioned performance on 17 March 2027 at 7.30pm. These provide spoken descriptions of the visual action and displayed text of dialogue and sound respectively.
