Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher becomes Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada

Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher is heading to the West End to take over one of film’s most recognisable characters, Miranda Priestly, in The Devil Wears Prada musical.

Teri Hatcher is best known for playing Susan Mayer throughout all eight seasons of Desperate Housewives, while film audiences may also remember her as Bond girl Paris Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies. She begins performances as intimidating Runway magazine editor Miranda Priestly at London’s Dominion Theatre on 20 October.

The character was famously played by Meryl Streep in the 2006 film, opposite Anne Hathaway as aspiring journalist Andy Sachs. The stage musical takes the same fashion world and brings it to life with music written by Elton John.

Teri takes over following Vanessa Williams, who is known to television viewers for playing Wilhelmina Slater in Ugly Betty as well as starring in Desperate Housewives. Vanessa gives her final performance on 19 September, before established West End performer Debbie Kurup plays Miranda from 21 September until 17 October.

Teri then begins on 20 October and is currently scheduled to remain in the show until 6 February 2027. That puts her at the centre of the musical throughout Christmas and New Year, giving visitors plenty of opportunity to see her rather than limiting the casting to a short guest appearance.

Stevie Doc, who won ITV talent series Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream, continues as Andy. Taila Halford plays Miranda’s assistant Emily, while Olivier Award winner Matt Henry appears as fashion editor Nigel.

The story follows Andy as she lands a job working for one of the most powerful women in fashion. What initially appears to be the opportunity of a lifetime begins taking over her relationships and personal life as Miranda’s demands become increasingly difficult to satisfy.

Where to see The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada is playing at the Dominion Theatre in London and is currently booking well into 2027. Teri’s first performance as Miranda is on 20 October, with her final scheduled performance on 6 February 2027.
