Delta Goodrem cleared to return to Strictly Come Dancing this Saturday after rib injury

Delta Goodrem will be back in the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom this weekend. The BBC has confirmed that the Australian singer has been given the all clear to dance again after a rib injury forced her to sit out Icons Week.

Strictly shared the news on its official Instagram account on Monday, telling viewers: "Following her bye last week due to injury, we're delighted to confirm Delta has been given the all clear to dance again this weekend." The show added that she will return to the ballroom on Saturday night, and that Abi Clarke will drop into her rehearsal room for a chat on Training Room Diaries on Wednesday evening.

The update will come as a relief to her supporters, because Delta and her professional partner Kai Widdrington had made a strong start to the series. Their salsa took them to the top of the leaderboard in week three, which made missing the following live show all the more frustrating for the pair.

Delta had been resting at home on doctors' advice when she withdrew from Icons Week. Explaining the decision at the time, she said: "I'm absolutely gutted that a rib injury means I won't be able to dance on Strictly this week." She added that she had "been loving every second of this experience" and hoped to be "back on that dancefloor very soon". During the live show itself, presenter Emma Willis told viewers that medical advice had ruled her out of performing.

Because the BBC treated her missed week as a bye, Delta and Kai stayed in the competition while she recovered, and her fellow contestants were quick to celebrate the good news. Tabby Stoecker was among the first to respond, writing: "Yay!!! So happy you're feeling better."

It has been a busy autumn on British television for the singer, who SoaplandTV recently reported was joining Kelly Rowland for The Voice UK Battles. For now, though, her focus is firmly back on the dancefloor.

Viewers can get a first look at how her rehearsals are going on Training Room Diaries on Wednesday, before Saturday's live show, when they will find out whether she and Kai can pick up where their salsa left off. Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
