Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh joins a major cast for The Pelicot Trial, with the one-off London performance streaming worldwide for free.
Former Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh is joining a major cast for the UK premiere of The Pelicot Trial, with audiences around the world able to watch the one-off event completely free.
Hesmondhalgh, who played Hayley Cropper in Corrie, joins Adjoa Andoh, Tamzin Outhwaite, Alfred Enoch, Rosie O'Donnell, Juliet Stevenson, Samuel West, Olivia Williams and Sharon Duncan-Brewster among the first names confirmed. Thirty artists and public figures will ultimately take part.
The entire performance will stream free
The four-hour documentary theatre piece explores the trial of Gisèle Pelicot, drawing on testimonies and written accounts from the case alongside police files, social commentary and psychiatric reports relating to the men prosecuted.
Pelicot waived her anonymity and became an international symbol in the fight against sexual violence. The production was developed with journalists, researchers and feminist organisations in France before receiving its world premiere in Vienna in 2025 and subsequently travelling internationally.
Its London performance will take place at County Hall on 30 November from 6pm until 10pm. Importantly, viewers do not need to be in London to see it, as the Young Vic will livestream the complete performance worldwide for free on its YouTube channel.
Further casting is still to be announced, while the Young Vic lists the production as suitable for ages 16 and over and warns that it contains descriptions of sexual violence.
