Bridgerton is expanding its Regency-era universe with a new limited series exploring the love story between Violet Ledger and Edmund Bridgerton, the parents of the eight siblings at the centre of the hit Netflix drama.

Announced on 8 October 2026, the prequel will explore how the couple met and fell in love, offering viewers a closer look at the relationship that shaped the Bridgerton family before the events of the original series.

Shonda Rhimes returns for Bridgerton prequel

Shonda Rhimes will write and serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Nicholas Nardini, while Tom Verica will direct. The project follows the success of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which explored the romance between Queen Charlotte and King George III.

Ruth Gemmell plays Violet in the main series, but Netflix has not yet announced who will portray the younger Violet and Edmund. Casting details and the full production schedule are still to come.

When will the Bridgerton prequel be released?

Netflix has not confirmed a release date, episode count or filming timetable for the untitled series. The fifth season of Bridgerton, focusing on Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling, is expected in 2027.

The original Bridgerton series and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story are available to stream on Netflix in the UK. The new prequel is not yet available to watch, and no trailer has been released.

Fans can follow announcements through Netflix Tudum and the official Bridgerton Instagram account for updates on casting, filming and the eventual premiere.
