Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reunite for The Mummy sequel
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning for The Mummy: Book of the Dead, the new instalment in the adventure film franchise arriving in 2027.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to reunite for a new instalment in The Mummy franchise, which has officially been titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead.
The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 15 October 2027, bringing Fraser and Weisz back together as adventurer Rick O’Connell and Egyptologist Evelyn O’Connell. The pair starred in the original 1999 film and its 2001 sequel, The Mummy Returns.
The new instalment is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking duo known as Radio Silence, with a screenplay by David Coggeshall. John Hannah and Oded Fehr are also among the returning cast members.
The announcement marks a return to the characters who helped establish the original films as a popular mix of adventure, horror and comedy. Fraser’s Rick O’Connell and Weisz’s Evelyn became central to the franchise’s appeal, combining action sequences with the relationship at the heart of the story.
Plot details for The Mummy: Book of the Dead have not been fully revealed, so it is not yet clear what new dangers will bring Rick and Evelyn back into the adventure. The title signals another chapter for the long-running series, which has continued to attract interest from fans of the original films.
The sequel also reunites the leads after years of separate projects. Fraser has enjoyed renewed attention following his acclaimed performance in The Whale, while Weisz has continued working across film and television.
With the release date now set for October 2027, audiences have a confirmed date for the return of the franchise’s original central pairing.
More details about the story and any additional cast announcements are expected as production progresses.
