Blumhouse is developing a feature film based on the horror video game Amanda the Adventurer, with YouTube creator Matthew Patrick, better known as MatPat, attached to produce the project.

The announcement was made during the studio's BlumFest presentation at New York Comic Con on Friday, 9 October. The project is the first title revealed under a multi-project arrangement that will see Patrick work with Blumhouse on films inspired by independent horror games and online horror communities.

The original Amanda the Adventurer combines the familiar appearance of a children's television programme with unsettling mysteries hidden within a collection of videotapes. Players discover recordings featuring Amanda, an animated character whose cheerful presentation gradually gives way to increasingly disturbing interactions and puzzles.

The contrast between the show's child-friendly appearance and its darker underlying story helped the game establish a following among horror fans and online gaming audiences. Its format also lends itself to a screen adaptation, where the apparent innocence of a children's programme can become part of the suspense.

Patrick built his profile through YouTube's Theory channels, which examined games, films and popular culture through detailed theories and investigations. His involvement gives the project a direct connection to the online communities that helped horror games develop audiences beyond traditional gaming platforms.

During the presentation, Patrick explained that he wants the partnership to give independent games and online horror concepts a route to a wider audience. Amanda the Adventurer is the first project to emerge from the agreement, but further titles are expected to be developed as the collaboration progresses.

The film remains in the early stages of development. No writer or director had been announced at the time of the reveal, and details about the cast, production schedule and cinema release have not yet been confirmed.

Blumhouse has increasingly explored horror stories that originate online, alongside established film franchises and original productions. The Amanda the Adventurer adaptation fits that approach by drawing on a game whose mystery, visual style and storytelling developed through interactive play and online discussion.

The challenge will be translating the game's gradual discoveries into a feature-length film while retaining the unsettling contrast that made it distinctive. For now, the announcement establishes the project and Patrick's role, with the creative team and further production details still to come.
