BLACKPINK’s JENNIE Makes Her Animated Film Song Debut With Steps
JENNIE performs “Someone to Hold” for Netflix animated film Steps, arriving on 20 November 2026 with new songs from Rose Gray and EMEI.
BLACKPINK star JENNIE is contributing new music to Netflix’s animated film Steps, with her song “Someone to Hold” among the tracks written and performed for the project.
Netflix’s Tudum published details of the film and its music in October 2026, ahead of the film’s scheduled release on 20 November. The project gives JENNIE a new screen-related musical credit through an animated feature, extending her work beyond BLACKPINK and her solo releases.

“Someone to Hold” is described as a song about the bond between the sisters at the centre of the story. The soundtrack also includes new songs from Rose Gray and EMEI, with each performer bringing a different musical perspective to the film’s characters.
Rose Gray contributes “Meet Me on the Dance Floor” and co-wrote “Smile and a Song”, which is also performed by Amanda Seyfried. EMEI’s track “Understudy” draws on the experience of feeling overlooked or misunderstood, connecting the song to the character Lilith.
The music is designed to do more than accompany the animation. Character-led songs can give viewers a clearer sense of what the people in a story want, fear or struggle to express, while helping establish the emotional rhythm of key scenes.

Netflix has also announced a score by Kris Bowers, whose work provides a separate musical layer from the original songs. The combination of a composed score and character-focused tracks gives the film different ways to move between its fantasy setting, emotional moments and larger musical sequences.
The film offers a fresh take on Cinderella-inspired storytelling, placing the focus on the stepsisters rather than simply repeating the familiar tale from the heroine’s point of view. That shift gives the creative team room to reconsider characters traditionally presented as antagonists.
For JENNIE, the project also introduces her music to audiences who may discover the song through the film rather than through her usual pop releases. Steps is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on 20 November 2026, with further details available through the streamer’s official announcements.
