Big Brother’s Frankie Taber Reveals He Entered Show to Come Out as Bisexual
Big Brother’s Frankie Taber has come out as bisexual, revealing he entered the ITV show intending to finally share his sexuality publicly.
Big Brother housemate Frankie Taber has come out as bisexual in an emotional Diary Room conversation, revealing that one of his reasons for entering the ITV reality show was to finally speak openly about his sexuality.
The 23-year-old marketing manager from London became emotional during Tuesday night’s episode after struggling to sleep during his first night in the house. After initially opening up to fellow housemates Johanne and Pauline about having something on his mind, Frankie later headed to the Diary Room and explained what had been troubling him.
“I’ve been a little bit upset,” Frankie told Big Brother. “I need to get it off my chest. I mean look, to be fair, I came on this show to come out – because I’m bisexual.”
Frankie explained that he had been struggling for around 18 months to two years, describing the “guilt and shame” he had been carrying and admitting that he felt as though he had “let down a lot of people”. As he became tearful, Big Brother reassured him that he had not let anyone down.
His concerns also extended to what could happen outside the house once his friends and other people in his life saw the conversation. Frankie admitted he was worried that some people might no longer want to be friends with him or could choose to avoid him following his decision to come out publicly.
Asked why he felt able to finally say it inside the Big Brother house, Frankie pointed to the people around him and the environment created by the Diary Room as helping him feel comfortable enough to speak openly.
The moment comes during Bi Visibility Month, with Bi Visibility Day taking place on 23 September. Frankie’s decision to share his sexuality on one of Britain’s best-known reality programmes gives bisexual representation a prominent place on mainstream television at a particularly relevant time.
His admission also revealed a much more vulnerable side to a housemate who had only just begun his Big Brother experience. What started as something Frankie feared could change how people saw him instead became a very public moment of bisexual visibility, told by Frankie himself and entirely on his own terms.
Big Brother continues Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
