Ben Affleck and Kerry Washington face every parent’s worst nightmare in Animals, a major new Netflix thriller that sees their seemingly perfect life collapse when their son is kidnapped.
Netflix released the official trailer on 15 September, giving viewers their biggest look yet at the new film. Affleck directs, co-writes and stars alongside Washington, with Gillian Anderson and Steven Yeun also among the cast.

Affleck plays Mark Kimball, a successful politician campaigning to become mayor of Los Angeles, while Washington stars as his wife Abigail. From the outside they appear to have everything, but their lives are shattered when their son Denny is kidnapped.
The couple are forced to scramble to raise the ransom while desperately trying to bring him home. However, the kidnapping soon begins exposing secrets within their marriage, leaving Mark and Abigail facing choices that could destroy the life they have built together even if they manage to save their son.
Affleck has described the film as being about more than the kidnapping itself, with the story also exploring marriage and what happens when people are placed under extreme pressure. The trailer shows that idea quickly taking hold as the couple’s carefully constructed public and private lives begin falling apart.
Gillian Anderson plays Dayle, a mysterious fixer who becomes involved in the crisis and warns the couple that anything they have been hiding from each other will need to come out.
