Angus, Thongs gets surprise Netflix comeback 18 years after hit film

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging could be heading back to screens almost two decades after Georgia Nicolson and the Stiff Dylans became favourites with a generation of British teenagers.

Netflix has ordered a pilot for a new television adaptation of Louise Rennison's bestselling books, with filming taking place in the UK this autumn. However, fans should not celebrate a full series quite yet, as Netflix will need to decide whether to take the project further.

Georgia Nicolson is getting another chance

The new adaptation is currently using Rennison's original title, Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, and will once again follow teenager Georgia as she navigates family, friendships, embarrassing disasters and her attempts to find romance.

Monica Heisey is writing the pilot, with Jim O'Hanlon directing. Fifth Season and Rise Films are producing, while casting has been under way following an open search for young performers earlier this year.

The books previously inspired the 2008 film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, starring Georgia Groome as Georgia and a young Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Robbie. Gurinder Chadha directed the film, which developed a particularly devoted following among viewers who grew up with it.

This time, television could allow considerably more of Rennison's original stories to reach the screen. Her Georgia Nicolson series stretches across multiple books, giving a potential Netflix adaptation far more material than one film could accommodate.

For now, though, only the pilot has been ordered. A full Netflix series, cast and release date are still to be confirmed.
